Accomplishments

It has been an honor to represent House District 8 at the Legislature. Over the past four years, I have made a sincere effort to work hard, listen to your concerns, and make good policy. Here are some of the things we have accomplished.

TAX CUTS

Supported record economic growth and good management practices which resulted in more than $220 million in tax cuts during the past two years — including a reduced income tax rate and cuts in the general and food sales taxes.

EDUCATION FUNDING

Invested record amounts in public education and increased teacher compensation by more than $120 million.

WEBER COUNTY JOB GROWTH

Funded a veterans’ nursing home that will provide new jobs to our local economy. Nearly $20 million was appropriated for the construction of this asset in Weber County.

MORTGAGE FRAUD PREVENTION

Passed legislation that will curtail the mortgage fraud problem that has driven up Utah’s interest rates and housing prices. This legislation will save our state and its citizens hundreds of thousands of dollars.

District 8 Issues

THE ECONOMY

We must elect leaders who place Weber County economic development at the top of their legislative priorities. State leaders must be committed to job growth, particularly the promotion of industry that creates high-paying jobs.

FISCAL RESTRAINT

In these tough times, we must contain government spending, reduce the tax burden on our citizens, and resist federal government actions that threaten our sovereignty and solvency.

EDUCATION

I will continue to work for reduced class sizes and increased compensation for teachers. We must work together to ensure that families, communities, and businesses take an active interest in our local schools.

ETHICS REFORM

I will continue to support common-sense ethics reform that will revive the public's trust in our state government, including more transparency and a ban on gifts.
