District 8
Issues
EDUCATION
I will continue to work for reduced class sizes and increased compensation
for teachers. We must work together to ensure that families, communities,
and businesses take an active interest in our local schools.
IMMIGRATION
Our broken immigration system creates societal challenges and incurs
significant costs that can no longer go unaddressed. Inaction by
the federal government leaves individual states little choice but
to enter the immigration reform dialogue. It is up to us to find
innovative solutions to our unique illegal immigration problems.
FISCAL RESPONSIBILITY
Utahs limited and effective government led the
Beehive State to be named the best managed state in America. As
your state representative, I will continue my work to preserve these
principles while focusing on the economy, education, sound tax policy,
and energy development that will help our state grow.
FAMILY VALUES
I will work to protect Utahs quality of life while maintaining
an honest, ethical, and accountable government. It is critical that
our children and grandchildren are given opportunities to enjoy
our quality of life and succeed in their education and careers.
HEALTH CARE
This past legislative session, I worked for passage of HB 67, which
exempts Utahns from the requirement under Obamacare to buy health
insurance. Additionally, along with 20 other states, Utah is challenging
the constitutionality of the health-care bill. Federal intrusion
into states rights will no longer be accepted, especially
when the encroachment results in tax dollars being borrowed from
future generations.
THE ECONOMY
As your representative, I have placed Weber County economic development
at the top of my legislative priorities. State leaders must be committed
to job growth, particularly the promotion of industry that creates
high-paying jobs
ETHICS REFORM
I will continue to support common-sense ethics reform
that will revive the public's trust in our state government, including
more transparency and a ban on gifts.
